...The first Visual Studio beta, expected in May, will also premier Microsoft's highly anticipated software modeling framework and engine to assist application lifecycle management. Codenamed Whitehorse, it will incorporate UML and provide elements for autonomic computing, a concept dominated by systems vendors.
...Huwe said Whitehorse would help unify the design and runtime elements of an application's lifecycle. It does this by taking into account deployment resources such as a server's hard disk of processor speed, for example, during the applications' build phase. As such, Whitehorse is part of Microsoft's Dynamic Systems Initiative for autonomic computing.
Whitehorse will take third-party plug-ins for UML, used to architect applications, but other details are so far vague. Huwe said the company's Web Services Toolkit "gives you a glimpse of what's coming. It's the stuff that Whitehorse will take advantage of."...
