Halloween Masks and Political Predictions

Not many trick or treaters out here in this part of the rural Northeast, but those who did drop by this evening wereterribly cute and oh so scary—generally power rangers, witches and mermaids.

What is truly scary though is a story in The Daytona Beach News-Journal by JeannineGage— Halloween picks an election indicator, some say.

According to Gage’s article the sale of Bush masks beat out Kerry masks 54 percent to 46 percent this Halloweenseason. Both this article, and another in Money magazine back in September, also list previous election year maskpurchase data.

Match.com singles don’t rank presidential candidate ‘mugs’ among their top 5favorite masks / costumes:

1. Wizards.
2. Haute hotties.
3. Real-life heroes (police, firefighter, etc.).
4. Superheroes.
5. Corporate crooks.

Hmm, but don’t some presidential candidates fall into one or more of these five categories however?

Then there are always the Democratic and Republican electoral vote predictors.
